frequently asked questions

What does it typically cost?
Prices vary depending on a few factors including size, materials, prep/design work, execution/performance of the work, and miscellaneous factors (travel, parking, etc). The best way to price out your project is to contact us with your project idea (give us as many details as you can!) and we will send you a quote! We do have a price list that is available upon request. However, the price list is just to get a ballpark ideas as, explained above, prices can vary. Regardless, please contact us!

How long will it take?
For murals: Not all surfaces are created equal. A few factors are taken into consideration when estimating the length of a project. These include the texture of the surface, the level of detail in the piece, and temperature/weather conditions, just to name a few. We're pretty good at estimating the length of time that's required (once we have all of the details of the project ironed out, of course).
For chalkboards: Once the concept art has been finalized, turnaround time is really quick- usually 24 hours or less. I can chalk on boards that are affixed to the wall or that are free standing.

Can you create concept art for me?
Absolutely- once a contract is signed and the deposit is received. Due to the high volume of projects at any given time, I cannot create concept art for a client to help them decide whether or not they want to hire me. Thank you for your understanding.

Can you come see my space and make recommendations?
For a $50 nonrefundable fee, I can scout out a space prior to any contract. If you decide to proceed with the project, this scouting fee will go towards the full amount of the project. If you decide not to move forward, the fee is nonrefundable. I have a high volume of projects at any given time and appreciate your understanding that I have to use my time wisely and still put food on the table!

Can you paint my wall for me?
I do not paint walls but I can recommend people that do. I can, however, repaint small to medium sized chalkboards (for a nominal fee) so that they have a fresh and clean look. This is highly recommended for chalkboards that have previously used chalk pen. If repainting your board is not an option, but you still need to remove the "ghosting" effect of chalk pens, I have a few suggestions. Reach out and I'll be happy to share!

What kind of chalk pens do you use?
I've tried so many brands of chalk pens and there's one that stands out among the rest. I love using Crafty Croc brand chalk markers for my projects. The nibs give a really fine line and the ink is consistent throughout the marker's life. I don't use anything else!
Where can I rent a chalkboard in Atlanta?
I don't rent chalkboards, though we can suggest some online and in-store resources where you can find them. I can also connect you to a local contractor if you are looking for a custom size. If you are looking for retail chalkboards, like A-frame boards, I recommend Stamps Store Fixtures.

Can you make the chalk permanent?
Yes! This option was developed for clients who leave chalkboards outside and don't want to worry about rain or other potential damage. I have a permanent chalk treatment that won't be affected by rain or curious hands. Please let me know ahead of time that you request this permanent chalk treatment so that I can plan for your project accordingly!

What happens if it rains while you're creating an outdoor chalk mural?
I spend countless hours creating chalk murals and this is by far the most popular question! Unfortunately, sidewalk chalk is water-soluble which means that it will begin to wash away as soon as it gets wet. Other factors can contribute to its deterioration as well, like wind (the chalk dust blows away), foot traffic, cars, and more. Yes, it's a little sad to see your work go away, but it's part of the process. The great thing about the work is that it lives on in photos!

What other services can you provide?
See a list on our "about" page!

the process: how it works-

Thank you for your interest in Atlanta Chalk Artist! If you're interested in our services, here's our process:

1. Get a quote! Reach out to us and let us know what project you have in mind. Details are great!

2. We will send you a quote for the services requested.

3. If all looks well, we'll draft a contract and begin working on the designs. A 50% deposit is required (for projects amounting over $1000) prior to the execution of the work and, in some cases, prior to the design being created.

4. We will send you the proposed artwork/concept art for you to review and make any requested changes.

5. Time to make the art! We put our heart and soul into every piece that we do, ensuring that you have a beautiful work of art with excellent craftsmanship that is sure to get people talking.

example

"I want a design that focuses on landmarks in and around our city, which also incorporates our logo."
Proposed Chalk Art
A draft of the proposed work was made & adjusted as needed. Drafts may be digital or hand drawn, depending on the piece.

Sometimes when we are creating a work, we will make minor changes to help balance the piece or make it more harmonious. Of course, we clear these changes with our clients prior to execution.
